Science of Reading 101

Close to 40 years of reading research is making it's way into practice and policy making. Learn the basics of the Science of Reading movement and why it's important for literacy instruction in your classroom, building, and/or district. Participants will learn what cognitive and neuroscience has uncovered about the brains of skilled readers and how the research can inform our literacy instruction. Our virtual Science of Reading 101 session is on Tuesday, September 28th from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. For additional information or to register, please follow the link

District Testing Coordinators Network Meeting

Join us for our virtual District Testing Coordinators Network Meeting on September 30th at 10:00 AM! We will cover all ODE testing information, changes and legislative updates. Newly added requirements such as HQSD, dyslexia screeners, and graduation requirements will be additional topics of discussion as information becomes available. Interventions & Active Listening Series

Join us virtually September 30th, October 21st, and November 18th at 2 PM for our Interventions and Active Listening Series! This three part series addresses students in conflict, ways to communicate to connect with students and interventions for challenging behaviors. Part two will address active listening and ways to validate and decode students at the level they are emotionally as well as developmentally. Part 3 of this series will address behavioral interventions for challenging behavior including proactive approaches and communication responses. Creating a Local Literacy Plan

The newly released Dyslexia Each Child Reads Grant from ODE requires the submission of a Local Literacy Plan as part of the application.  Whether you already have a locally created plan or have been looking to get started in creating one, this session will be informative.  An overview of the grant opportunity will be provided and participants will join virtual breakout rooms for either learning the basics of creating a plan from scratch or revising, editing, and updating an existing plan.  For additional information or to register, please follow this link.

Geauga Growth Partnership, the ESC of the Western Reserve, and Ohio Means Jobs Geauga County have teamed up to connect educators with local businesses to increase awareness of career opportunities for your students and the education, training, skills, and certifications needed for these careers.
 
  • Increase awareness of local industry career opportunities for youth.
  • Empower educators by preparing them with the knowledge and resources to assist students in planning for their future career.
  • Build lasting connections between educators and businesses that will lead to partnerships and improving future workforce outcomes.
  • Keynote Speaker: Dr. Jennifer McCreight, Professor at Hiram College, contributor to Tech & Trek education program which aims to merge traditional classroom learning with 21st century mobile technology, with a focus on access to technology for all students.
