The Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve receives funding for computer science courses
The Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve (ESCWR) has received state funding to enhance computer science education for K-12 educators. This funding, part of the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Teach CS Grants program, aims to provide professional development opportunities for educators to teach computer science. ESCWR is one of six educational service center partners in Ohio to benefit from a total of $6 million awarded to 17 educational institutions. The program allows educators to qualify to teach computer science through various certification programs and awards grants competitively to eligible institutions of higher education. Up to 1,100 educators statewide will receive training through this initiative. ESCWR received $200,000 to cover tuition and materials for enrolled teachers. The long-term goal is to establish a support and professional development network for graduates through webinars. ESCWR is collaborating with Lake Erie College and Kent State University to create a local consortium and professional learning community for computer science education.
