Teachers continue to work from home with our students
Preschool tuition update

March 26th 2020

Dear Parents,

We know many of you have concerns regarding tuition during this uncertain time. Currently, per the Offices of the Treasurer and the Superintendent of the ESC of the Western Reserve, we are asking families within our preschool programs to make their payment for March as usual.

Please remember that your tuition is a full year payment broken into 9 monthly payments to assist families from making one large payment at the beginning of the preschool year. This means that your March payment is not just for this month, it is part of a whole payment plan.

During the recent weeks while schools have been closed, teachers made available to you distance learning packets, activity suggestions and online resources. Teachers were readily available to assist you and your child by phone, email, text, as well as offering on-line contact through Remind and Class Dojo depending on the preschool program your child attends.

In the event schools remain closed for an extended period, we are making plans for teachers and other service providers to be able to provide more face to face time with you and your child.

As we receive information from Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Education, we will continue to notify you and post information on our website at under the Preschool tab. Should your contact information change during this time please update us at the email below.

Thank you for your patience during this time.

School Closure Information

Dear parents,

As you are aware Governor Mike DeWine mandated closure of all Ohio schools as a precautionary measure to prevent the increasing spread of Coronavirus COVID-19. This mandate applies to all preschool programs licensed through the Ohio Department of Education as well as those preschool programs run by Educational Service Centers. As a result, the following ESC of the Western Reserve preschool programs will be closed, beginning Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 3, 2020: Perry, Fairport Harbor, Metzenbaum Center (including Twinkle), Jordack, and Ledgemont.
School personnel will report on Monday to finalize our learning plan. While our responsibility is to maintain continuity of instruction for our preschool students, we understand that this is an unprecedented time in education. We plan to support our families by providing developmentally appropriate resources and activities you can do with your child to help maintain their skills over the next
few weeks.
Your child’s teacher will be contacting you through their usual method of communication to provide you with these resources. Each program will follow their Spring break as planned so teachers will not be available during that week. They will be available the 2 weeks of the district school closures during regular school hours by phone or email to answer any questions or concerns you may have about your child.
One of the best things you can do during the next few weeks is read with your child every day. Look for ways to turn everyday activities into learning experiences. Just enjoy your child and make learning fun. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Denise DiMatteo

Preschool/Early Childhood
The ESC of the Western Reserve provides high quality preschool to any child between the ages of 3-5 throughout both Lake and Geauga Counties. Our preschools are licensed by the Ohio Department of Education and follow a state approved curriculum that is aligned to the Ohio Early Childhood Content Standards. All of our staff are licensed by the Ohio Department of Education and the majority hold a Master's Degree.
Children are curious about their world and full of wonder making preschool a crucial time of learning. Early childhood education fosters independence and creativity in all areas of learning so that young children may know the true joy of discovery. Through a prepared environment, preschool can offer a broad spectrum of experiences that spark the imagination of children and alert them to the vast possibilities that their world presents. Exploring together with other children provides an opportunity for children to understand their own needs as well as the needs of others.
Our goal is to prepare all children for Kindergarten and we do this by implementing all five developmental domains;
  • fine/gross motor
  • communicative
  • adaptive
  • cognitive
  • social/emotional
In addition to the five developmental domains, we realize the importance of children learning how to compromise, be respectful to others, and problem solve - preschool provides a place where your child can gain a sense of self, explore, play with peers and build confidence.
In order to meet every child's individual needs, we assess every child through a variety of methods including play-based, observation, and parent interviews/questionnaires. In some cases, children need further evaluations and may qualify for specialized services in the areas of occupational, speech/language, or physical therapy.
Our preschool locations:
  • Fairport Harbor Preschool
  • Perry Preschool
  • Jordak Elementary
  • Ledgemont Elementary
  • Metzenbaum Center
